PHEV Conversion
The EnergyCS proprietary battery control system operates seamlessly with the rest of the vehicle electronics. The battery system and vehicle communicate reliably using the vehicle CAN bus. BMS controls have been optimized to maximize EV operation at low speeds, and to minimize engine operation while preserving SULEV or better vehicle performance. A control display unit (CDU) is mounted on the dashboard and functions as the user interface and vehicle interface between the EnergyCS BMS and the Toyota hybrid controller.
The CDU interacts with the EnergyCS BMS to monitor and regulate
(a) the charge and discharge of the battery (monitors and balances cell voltages within the pack)
(b) monitor the temperature of each battery module
(c) how power is distributed to the wheels to maximize electric vehicle operation at low speeds, and minimize engine operation
(d) the collection and logging of data from vehicle. The CDU handles data logging via the vehicle CAN bus and saves the following information to a Secure Digital flash memory card:
